Let’s start this roundup of the latest transfer news with the suggestion, from a number of publications that the next move for Mason Greenwood, now that it is agreed he has no future at Manchester United, is said to be the exploration of options in Turkey and Italy.

Meanwhile, Manchester City continue to be busy in the market, rather later than normal. Jérémy Doku is expected to sign up from Rennes, the Belgian taking up the Riyad Mahrez role that was supposed to have been filled by Lucas Paquetá before the FA began investigating the Brazilian over potential betting breaches.
Jérémy Doku

City are looking to ship out Kalvin Phillips, who has never really fit in since signing from Leeds, and Liverpool and Bayern Munich are linked. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, want £22m if they’re to sell Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool or Manchester United. They have also shipped out Benjamin Pavard, who was linked with United but will instead end up in Milan at Inter.

The £85m that West Ham expected to receive for Paquetá may have been lost for now but they still have cash from Declan Rice’s sale washing around. They’re reported to have made a bid for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke to reduce Michail Antonio’s workload, as well as another for Sevilla’s Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri. The latter would be quite the addition though it’s likely he won’t have Nayef Aguerd to show him the sights and sounds of Romford: his compatriot, who scored and was sent off at the weekend, is linked with a return to Rennes.

Todd Boehly now knows the identity of his next megabucks transfer from Brighton; the Seagulls have put in a bid for Carlos Baleba at Lille, a midfielder to fill the hole left by Moises Caicedo. Still, until that happens, Todd’s retail therapy continues with the signing of Djordje Petrović, the Serbian goalie who currently plays for New England Revolution, and will replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea’s search for a striker continues and Folarin Balogun, who is a regular subject of speculation, is said to have agreed personal terms with the Blues. He just needs Arsenal and Chelsea to agree a deal for him to be sold. Arsenal are also having to ward off Saudi Arabian interest in centre-back Gabriel. Al-Ittihad are the interested party.

And, talking of goalkeepers, Hugo Lloris looks set to end his 11 years at Tottenham by heading to Serie A and Lazio.

“Not in my best shape yet” – West Ham player ready to fight for position, wants to leave a mark

By Sean Lunt

West Ham United summer signing Edson Álvarez has admitted he’s not in his best shape yet but is determined to fix that and make a big impression at the London Stadium.

The midfielder has been speaking to EFE after Sunday’s big win over rivals Chelsea, in which the Mexican made his debut for the Hammers.

The 25-year-old joined West Ham from Ajax earlier this month, arriving in a €38m deal from the Dutch side as a replacement for Declan Rice.

The move is the next step up in his career, having started with América in Mexico before joining Ajax in 2019 and establishing himself as a key player there over the last four years.

The hope is that he can help fill the hole left behind by Rice, who was the undisputed star of the show at West Ham and has left a huge void in David Moyes’ midfield with his €116.6m move to Arsenal.

Álvarez is aware of that pressure on him but insists he’s ready to make his mark, once he catches up to the pace required for life in the Premier League.

“I know I’m not in my best shape yet, I’ve only been training for a week, but you’re picking up all that with training and the matches,” he said.

“If I prepare very well, I know I can fight for a position. This league for me is the most important in the world. Every weekend you try to see the Premier teams. Being here is very motivating.

“I respect what he (Rice) is as a player. I’ve seen him, everyone knows him, but I’m here to make my own story, to contribute what I can contribute.”

West Ham have just agreed deal to sign ‘fearless’ player on cut-price deal

Ben Evans

West Ham United have now agreed a cut-price deal to sign Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer.

That’s according to journalist Santi Aouna, who shared more information on the transfer on social media.

One of the positions West Ham have been looking to strengthen this summer is centre-back.

For a while, it looked like David Moyes wanted to bring Harry Maguire to the London Stadium.

However, no agreement could be reached between the player and the two clubs.

New director of football Tim Steidten wanted Jonathan Tah but it’s another Bundesliga journalist who appears to be on his way to the club.

West Ham have now agreed a deal to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The transfer appeared to be in doubt yesterday after concerns over his medical.

Those issues have now been resolved but not before West Ham renegotiated the transfer.

West Ham agree deal for Mavropanos

Posting on social media, Aouna said: “West Ham United and Stuttgart agreed new deal for Mavropanos. It’s finally a price well below the €20M [£17m] initially negotiated.

“The deal will finally go through despite these trouble moments.

“Yesterday, WH had detected problems during the medical and had even explored the possibility of other center back.”

It’s not ideal news to hear that the ‘fearless’ defender had issues during his medical.

Although it may have saved West Ham some cash, the club don’t need to add another injury-prone player to the squad.

Mavropanos has some experience in English football after his spell at Arsenal where he failed to break into the first-team.

He’s gone away to Stuttgart and performed well and now earned a return to the Premier League.

West Ham will be pleased to have completed a deal to sign Mavropanos and will hope he can hit the ground running at the London Stadium.

He may have a tough time breaking into the team initially as Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma have formed a strong partnership.

However, the Algerian international’s red card on Sunday has opened up a gap in the defence for their next game.

If Mavropanos nearly failed a medical then there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready to step straight into the team.

Given the number of domestic and European games West Ham have coming up this season, it makes sense to bring in some additional competition.

West Ham now in pole position to sign ‘world-class’ forward Tottenham apparently want to sign

West Ham United now want to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku who is also reportedly of interest to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

A report from Football Transfers has shared more details about the Belgian international’s future.

West Ham manager David Moyes will know how important it is to bring in a proven goalscorer this summer.

He’s already lost Gianluca Scamacca after a disastrous 12 months at the London Stadium.

Youngster Divin Mubama impressed in pre-season but hasn’t been given an opportunity so far this campaign.

Michail Antonio scored a brilliant individual goal against Chelsea, proving why he’s such an effective centre-forward when playing on his own.

However, the Hammers will know that they can’t rely on Antonio and Danny Ings throughout the entire campaign, especially with Europa League football to think about as well.

West Ham now want to sign Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea are desperate to get rid of him this summer.

The ‘world-class’ forward needs a fresh start after a disastrous time at Stamford Bridge.

A move across London could be just what he needs but West Ham also face competition from other clubs.

The report from Football London says West Ham are in pole position to sign Lukaku after positive talks with his representatives.

There’s also interest from the Saudi Pro League, although the 30-year-old has so far resisted calls to make that move.

They go on to say that Chelsea aren’t expecting him to be at the club beyond deadline day.

Tottenham are also reportedly keen on Lukaku as they look to replace Harry Kane.

Spurs have identified several targets and it doesn’t appear as though the Belgian is at the top of their list.

It makes sense that West Ham want to sign Lukaku as his goal record is very impressive.

He was criticised for his role in the Champions League final for Inter Milan but his form had picked up in Serie A before that match.

Lukaku needs to settle somewhere and find his best form and West Ham could be the perfect destination for him to do that.

Steidten held ‘positive’ meeting for West Ham striker signing – Hammers ready to pay, also spoke to player’s agents

By Sean Lunt

West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten held a ‘positive’ meeting with Paris Saint-Germain over striker Hugo Ekitike, as well as speaking to the player’s agents.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Hammers are continuing to push for the striker as a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca.

The Italian departed West Ham earlier this month, joining Atalanta in a €25m deal to bring an end to a miserable, solitary year at the London Stadium.

While he was unable to make much of an impact for the club his departure has left a hole in their forward line, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings the senior forward options available to David Moyes at this moment in time.

It’s a situation they’re determined to rectify and Ekitike, who has been told he can leave PSG this summer as he is not a part of their plans, is the man they’ve been targeting.

According to FM’s information, Steidten recently held a new ‘positive’ meeting with his PSG counterpart Luis Campos to discuss the striker and a possible transfer. That discussion is described as being ‘frank and very constructive’.

The Hammers have made it clear they have the capacity to ‘align themselves’ with Ekitike’s salary demands and also with the transfer sum PSG would ask for. In other words, they can afford the player on both fronts.

They’ve also made this clear to the player and his representatives, holding talks with them about a switch to the London Stadium also. Ekitike’s agents were ‘very receptive’ to what West Ham had to say, according to FM.

Whether that leads to him ending up at the club before the end of the window is another matter, but the Hammers are keen and presenting their case on all fronts it seems.
